Day 1: Lisu Lodge - Full day trekking and bamboo rafting (L,D)
You will be transferred from Lisu Lodge to the trek starting point (approx 45 mins drive), followed by a 2-2.5 hours light trek to the village of Pong Ngan by the Mae Taeng River. After some refreshments and packed picnic lunch from the lodge, you will start bamboo rafting downriver for another 2 hours. Pick up from the village of Ban Sop Kai and transfer back to Lisu Lodge. Rest of the day is at leisure until dinner time. Dinner and overnight at Lisu Lodge.
Day 2: Lisu Lodge - Half day trekking and Araksa Tea Garden (B, L, D)
Breakfast at Lisu Lodge. Start a half day trek at 10am, lasting approx 3 hours, walk through the Lisu village community with English-speaking guide before entering the jungle path. For the next hour you will walk uphill on a small mountain trek through original and untouched rainforest and enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding area. Reaching the top, your downhill walk begins and takes you through the same splendid scenery on the other side of the mountain, reaching a newer hill tribe community. Continue by local truck to Araksa Tea Garden for authentic Thai Lunch at Araksa Tea House Restaurant.
After lunch (2pm), take the Araksa Tea Garden Tour, which includes a guided and hands-on experience in plucking tea leaves under the instructions of local pluckers. Observe the traditional way of tea processing resulting in Araksa’s “Preserve” Green while learning about the different types of teas available at Araksa Tea Garden and their respective production processes, as well as a glimpse of the more modern tea processing factory. In the end, you will enjoy a glass of iced tea and hot tea together with a locally produced snack.
Return to Lisu Lodge and enjoy your visit to:
- Rice paddies - Walk with our guide through rice paddies where we work together with the villagers to grow rice without the use of pesticide and insecticide. Stroll through the green or the golden carpet of the paddy fields, depending on the season, and learn and participate in the various stages of rice cultivation in northern Thai style.
- Himmapaan nursery - Learn about the flora of northern Thailand and how the forest ecosystem has been restored at a tree nursery of the Himmapaan Foundation, whose goal is to support and implement environmental and social projects by working with local communities in areas affected by tourism.
- Vegetable garden - Visit the vegetable garden where organic fertiliser is produced from leftover organic waste and grow a variety of vegetables and fruits that are used in several dishes served at Lisu Lodge.
- Dinner with hill tribe cultural dance and overnight at Lisu Lodge.
Day 3: Lisu Lodge (B, L)
Breakfast at the Lodge, then a choice of 1-hour activities. Choose from a guided biking tour around the Lisu Lodge area, a steam bath or massage. An additional 1-hour activity can be booked for a small charge, or as a free activity you are welcome to go cycling by yourself and will be given a road book of recommended itineraries. Enjoy a delicious Thai lunch. Check out after lunch.
