Queensland: Why go

This is the most popular place to come in Australia for sun, surf, sailing and sunshine. It boasts the largest coastal sand island in the world, Fraser Island, and the beautiful, tropical set of islands that make up the Whitsundays. Come here to experience contrasts, from the bold and brash Gold Coast and contemporary Brisbane to ancient rainforests in the far north. The largest metropolis in the area is Cairns, the second most popular city in Australia after Sydney. Surrounded by hills, mangroves and the ocean, it’s also the gateway to two very different World Heritage listed national parks – the lush Daintree rainforest, for walking and eco-adventures, or the gorgeous Great Barrier Reef, for diving, snorkelling and chilling out.
