Sporades Islands

Sporades Islands: Why go

The Sporades - so-called because they lie scattered ("sporadically", as it were) off the east coast of mainland Greece - are among the most wooded of Greece's islands, with dense green pine forests dropping away to turquoise seas and secluded coves. If you've seen the film Mamma Mia, which was filmed largely on Skopelos (and neighbouring Pelion), you'll know what we're talking about.

We start our coverage with the best-known of the 4 inhabited islands in this group: Skiathos.
