||Day 1 (B)
Transfer from Marrakech airport to Riad el Cadi.
Day 2 (B)
A guided tour of Marrakech including an early evening trip to Djemaa el-Fna. Overnight at Riad el Cadi.
Day 3 (B)
After breakfast you will be met by your guide to continue your tour of Marrakech. Highlights include the Majorelle Gardens, the Saadian Tombs, the medieval Medersa Ben Youssef (Koranic university) and the Musée de Marrakech. After lunch you will be driven south from Marrakech to visit the Ourika valley (nestled in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains). Overnight at Riad el Cadi.
Days 4-6 (B, L, D)
Drive into the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. Lunch at the world-renowned Kasbah du Toubkal. There's a huge range of hikes on offer, from half-day rambles through terraces, walnut groves and Berber villages to full-day (or even overnight) treks over 3000-metre cols to valleys untouched by roads and electricity. Overnight at Kasbah du Toubkal.
Day 7 (B, D)
After breakfast your driver will take you on a stunning drive across the Atlas range into the southerly desert area - the route goes almost via Marrakech and takes about 4 hours from the Toubkal area (option 1) or about 6 hours via Tizi n' Tichka from the Ait Bougmez valley (option 2) - be prepared for this long drive if choosing option 2! There's a chance to explore the quasi-Biblical, Unesco-listed village of Aït Benhaddou, before adjourning to the charming hamlet of Tamadaght. Overnight at Ksar Ighnda.
Day 8 (B, D)
After breakfast the southerly journey continues, past the town of Ouarzazate - where there's a chance to visit some film studios if that's of interest - and on down the Draa valley, famous for its date palm oases. You continue through Zagora to M'hamid, where the road ends and becomes desert (about 4 hours drive in total). To break up the journey there are countless photo opportunities along the course of the river Draa passing many Kasbahs in the way both ruined and inhabited. A walk round one is easily arranged. Overnight at Dar Azawad.
Day 9 (B, L, D)
Today, a chance to explore the Sahara proper, with a 4x4 excursion into the Erg Chigaga dunes (1-2 hours' drive from Azawad), Morocco's highest and most extensive sandscapes. After a picnic lunch, you drive to the nearby desert camp, where you spend the night in Berber tents or simple mud huts, with simple but delicious food and live music under the stars. Overnight at Bivouac Les H. Bleus.
Day 10 (B, L, D)
After breakfast you will be driven back across the desert to Dar Azawad, where you can relax, swim in the pool and take an early lunch. Return to, and overnight at, Ksar Ighnda.
