CasaSandra
Isla Holbox, The Yucatan
Facilities
- Dining: Breakfast is served from 7am to 11am, and the on-site gourmet restaurant is open for lunch and dinner (there's a strong emphasis on seafood, but some vegetarian meals are available). There's also a bar for light bites and cocktails
- Communal areas: The tropical garden is criss-crossed with paths embedded with tree trunk slices and marked with flares at night. There are also hammock-strung terraces for gazing out at the ocean and the sunsets. Inside is a lobby/lounge area with books, antiques, bespoke colonial-style furniture and rich (but not garish) colour. Most of the artwork on display is for sale
- Internet Access: WiFi is available in the common areas
- Swimming Pool: There's a Matisse-like pool shaped like a figure of 8, with a small waterfall towards one end. It's surrounded by ingenious double loungers and daybeds, and has a pool bar with a distinctive funky soundtrack
- Spa Treatments: In-room massages with a qualified therapist can be arranged (these must be booked 24 hours in advance)
- Recreational: Games are available to borrow. Staff can arrange a variety of tours and excursions covering Isla Holbox and the mainland
- Weddings and Celebrations: The hotel is ideal for weddings, special occasions, parties and family gatherings: you could take over one, several or all of the buildings

When to go?
May to September is best for seeing nature's wonders, including flamingos and whale sharks. But this is also the hottest time of year, so you may prefer to visit between January and May, before the high humidity kicks in. Temperatures peak in August. The low season is September to November, when the island tends to be less crowded, but be aware that there can be heavy downpours and a strong northerly wind. The rains usually end in early November, so late November and early December are good times to visit, before the onset of the busy and pricey Christmas period.
