Casita La Laguna

nr Tarifa, Spain

A fabulously located hideaway for two, looking out across the Straits to Morocco; at La Laguna you’ll have just the ocean, and the stars, for company

To the south, one of the best surfing beaches on the Atlantic coast, and the old town of Tarifa. The same distance to the north, Bolonia, with its gorgeous arc of unspoilt sandy beach, and Roman ruins right next to the ocean. In the middle of the two, secreted away amongst sand dunes and umbrella pines, you'll find Cortijo La Laguna and it’s diminuitive casita. This place is, literally, at the very end of the track: if you’re looking for romantic seclusion, then look no further.

Paul and Mei Ling have built their guest cottage so as to celebrate an incomparable panoramic view out across the Atlantic breakers to the North African Rif and, at night, to the twinkling lights of Tangiers. The casita takes its decorative cue from the Maghreb: a cool, uncluttered interior is embellished by a number of decorative Moroccan objets, there are masses of candles, and, thanks to a state-of-the-art eco-building brief (electricity is from wind and solar energy, water from springs), the house is warm in winter and cool in summer.

And - the cherry on the cake - a narrow footpath leads from La Casita down to a beach which is virtually deserted for 10 months of the year.
