CORTIJO EL PUERTO DEL NEGRO - REVIEW
Set high on a hillside of wild flowers, oak and olive trees, this wonderfully restored cortijo is the ideal place to get away from it all. It's elegant yet homely: a magnificent sweeping staircase leads up to 4 ensuite bedrooms, while downstairs in the sitting room large squishy sofas, stacks of books and DVDs invite you to hole up. Outdoor terraces and well tended gardens ensure plenty of space and privacy. This is no average villa rental: you can forget about donning your apron and marigolds - the house comes with an excellent chef and housekeeper. Every detail has been carefully thought of, from the pretty furnishings to the freshly-filled vases of roses.
The emphasis is on comfort and relaxation, but with a swimming pool, tennis court, full-size billiard table, walking and riding trails, there is never a dull moment. The 'white' village of Gaucin is a short drive away and further afield there are golf courses, beaches and unspoilt hilltop towns to explore.
