Dalt Murada
Palma, Mallorca
16th century mansion hidden away in Palma's historic quarter with large, beautifully-restored and traditionally furnished rooms
A 16th century mansion, just yards from Palma's magnificent
cathedral, Hotel Dalt Murada is tucked away in a peaceful alley. In
medieval times it belonged to one of Mallorca's most important
families. Later it became the residence of the Bestard de la Torre
family who have spent the last few years transforming their home
into an elegant yet friendly small hotel.
Much of the original character has been retained: high beamed
ceilings, old portraits and antique furniture (including some
beautiful Mallorquin beds); while private Jacuzzis, satellite
television and dedicated internet lines, bring the hotel into the
21st-century. There's a large leafy courtyard filled with lemon and
orange trees, perfect for alfresco breakfasts, and a host of
excellent restaurants and tapas bars within walking distance. Palma
makes an ideal short break and Dalt Murada the perfect retreat for
both romantics and families.

Highs
- The location is very central, behind the magnificent cathedral and within easy walking distance of Palma's boutiques, restaurants and harbour
- Many of the huge guest rooms have separate sitting rooms and won't break the bank
- The wonderful roof terrace is great for lounging in the sun
- The service is unpretentious and friendly
Lows
- As with most places in Palma's old quarter, the narrow lanes make it impossible to park nearby. We took our own car and arrived in a temper – take a taxi instead and let the taxi driver get frustrated!
- The entrance is so low key you can easily miss it, though we understand there are plans to create a bigger reception area
- It lacks the beautiful public rooms of the nearby Palacio Ca Sa Galesa but the guest rooms are twice the size and half the price
- Feedback regarding the breakfasts has been poor
- Guests may experience construction work as some areas of the hotel are currently being redecorated
