LA ALMUNA - REVIEW
Orange and grapefruit blossoms frame the entrance to Diana Paget’s gloriously chaotic farmhouse. On arrival, 2 friendly dogs rush to greet you and a large drink is thrust into your hand as you walk into the kitchen. Diana’s warm welcome and homely touches - pretty posy of violets from the garden, bowl of fresh fruit in your bedroom - instantly make you feel at home and amply make up for the odd cobweb and somewhat aged furnishings.
La Almuña has far reaching views of rolling countryside that can be enjoyed from a heavenly garden filled with jasmine, wisteria, roses, geraniums and bougainvillea. The house has grown in a higgledy piggledy fashion around a courtyard and has a huge drawing room with a cavernous fireplace, lovely old paintings, antique furniture and a clutter of interesting bits and pieces. You can stay on a B&B basis or rent the adjoining Hayloft cottage but don't miss out on at least one dinner - Diana is a marvellous cook and evenings are like a dinner party for guests, friends and neighbours. |
