Jaipur
Why go?
Known as the 'the Pink City' because of the reddish colourwash
applied to many of the buildings, Jaipur is Rajasthan's vibrant
state capital. For most, it's also the starting point for touring
Rajasthan: it's the nearest of the big cities to Delhi (5 hours 30
minutes by car) and has good air and rail connections. It's also a
paradise for shoppers, with a range of crafts and fabrics from
around Rajasthan.
Stay at Samode Haveli, a tranquil oasis with an exquisite
swimming pool, or savour Mughal luxury away from the hustle and
bustle at Samode Palace, an hour's drive outside the
city. Aslo nearby is The Farm, an imaginative and funky
art-filled hotel just 25 minutes away.
