Patagonia Vista Lodge
Near Bariloche, Argentina
A cosy lodge with 5 apartments for 2-4, on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi in Argentina's stunning Lake District
There’s nothing like watching light glinting on the surface
of a lake from the comfort of your bed, with thick forests of
towering conifers all around. This is Patagonia Vista Lodge, and
you don’t even have to venture out from under your duvet to
drink in the magnificent views.
Bariloche is undoubtedly the centre of Argentina’s
spectacular Lake Distirct region, with miles of stunning hikes and
ski runs in the snow-capped mountains above, and many places to
stay strung out along the lake road to the west. But in the forest
of chalet style buildings, it’s hard to know which to choose.
Patagonia Vista follows the traditional stone-and-tree-trunk style,
but its simple and unpretentious apartments are thoughtfully
equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing longer
stay.
There are 2 smaller apartments sleeping 2, and another 3
accommodating 4 people; 2 connect in duplex style to sleep 6. The
design is modern, with stone floors, white walls, and wooden
ceilings: nothing to detract from the magnificent views through the
huge windows. Kitchen areas are separated from sitting rooms or
bedrooms with polished granite breakfast bars, and each apartment
has a little terrace with loungers. There’s also a small spa
with a sauna and an indoor/outdoor pool: wonderfully soothing after
a long day’s rafting or snowboarding.

Highs
- The great location, 22km from Bariloche on the shores of the lake, is handy for boat tours and the picturesque Llao Llao peninsula
- Each apartment has a TV, WiFi and a terrace with sunloungers - perfect for soaking up the grand vistas or lazing around with an evening drink
- Breakfast is served in your room when you want it
- There’s a spa, an indoor/outdoor pool and a sauna, providing excellent value for money
- Hiking and skiing heaven is close at hand - regular buses and taxis take you into town or up to the slopes
Lows
- There's no restaurant (though your kitchenette is very well equipped) and you’ll need to take a taxi or drive if you want to eat out
- To get the best out of the area, you’ll probably want to hire a car
- The apartments are functional rather than luxurious, and the soundproofing could be better!
- Don’t expect hotel-style service or staff who speak fluent English
- This would be a great place to come with friends but all beds are doubles
