Casa de Carmona
Carmona, Southern Spain
Activities
- Carmona boasts a Roman necropolis, an
‘Alcazar’ (fortified palace), some fine churches,
impressive sections of city wall and a myriad of cobbled lanes to
wander through
- The lesser known towns of Osuna (a ducal seat) and
Ecija (‘city of towers’) are both within 30
minutes’ drive, as is the original Roman city of
Italica, birthplace of emperors Hadrian and Trajan
- Seville, Andalucia’s exuberant and artistic
capital, and Cordoba, steeped in Moorish history, are
respectively 30 and 60 minutes’ drive away (or less by
train)
- The new high speed train service to Madrid (2 ½
hours each way) makes a 2-day jaunt to the museum-rich capital a
genuine possibility
- But leave yourself time to soak up the palace’s tranquil ambiance – sipping coffee in the loggia, recumbent in a patio deckchair, or sunbathing by the pool
