Room Mate Alicia
Plaza Santa Ana, Madrid
- Stylish and chic - Pascual Ortega's creation is a triumph of
eclectic Noughties design and one in which comfort, and a sense of
humour, are always present - a hotel that appeals to all five
senses. This is post-Modern, pick-and-mix interior design at its
best
- The building looks great from within and from without. At night
the elegant glass-fronted upper storeys are lit in changing
colours, adding a unique visual element to Santa Ana square
- Top-floor Suites are unique in the city and their wacky
bathrooms, with a direct line of vision down to the square, are a
leap of designer imagination
- The Paradis tapas bar, with it very good food and very
good prices, is a huge plus if you fancy eating close to the
hotel
- The hotel’s reception area is simply stunning and feels
more like a contemporary art gallery than a utilitarian place for
checking in and out
- Alicia’s staff are well-versed in the Room Mate ethic of
treating you in the way that they would their own friends. Their
relaxed manner makes you feel more relaxed. And the reception area
helps - everything has been positioned for maximum visual effect
and chill music enhances the feel of an ethereal,
world-within-world
- Madrid’s barrio latino is one of the Madrid’s most attractive quarters and the Santa Ana square amongst its most appealing public spaces
When to go?
Madrid is a fascinating place to visit at any time of year. But remember that the city can be very cold in winter and sweltering-hot in summer. There is a huge annual exodus during the month of August which can be a great time to visit provided that you can handle temperatures that can get into the 40s.
