klapsons - The Boutique Hotel

Singapore City, Singapore

Wacky creativity abounds at this futuristic business hotel, also popular with stylish couples and anyone seeking a unique in-room shower experience

The hotel of the future is here! From the moment you walk into the lobby of klapsons and realize that the check-in desk is inside a giant silver sphere suspended above a small pool of water, you know you’re in for a different kind of lodging experience. This feeling is reinforced nearly everywhere you look: upright chairs that become recliners when tipped over, tables that seem to glow with their own inner light although they’re not plugged in, video screens in the ceiling of the elevator, uniquely designed showers placed in the most unusual locations in the 17 guest rooms and suites.

The hotel was conceived by leading Italian design house Sawaya & Moroni and is their first foray into the Asian market. And what a freshman effort it is. Staying here is like sleeping inside a work of art, a hotel where cutting-edge design concepts meet class and comfort. Wood, glass, plush fabrics and plastics are expertly arranged to create a mod yet welcoming aesthetic. The hotel is located just on the edge of Singapore’s Central Business District, which makes it the perfect home for the executive who is tired of the same old same old. It is also not too far from the Chinatown precinct and that fact, combined with sexy showers and dreamy beds, makes it an ideal spot for couples to make like the Jetsons for a few nights.

Highs

  • Crazy cool design, including some of the most unusual hotel showers we've come across: snail shapes, clear cylinders, outdoor cabanas, red-LED cloisters...
  • Electronic curtain and lighting controls in the rooms provide one-touch mood magic
  • Complimentary soft drinks in the mini-bar
  • Gadgets include large flat-screen LCD TVs and complimentary WiFi
  • Professional, attentive service

Lows

  • The location’s great for business, but there’s not much in the immediate vicinity for tourists. Singapore is small though, so it’s easy to get to the hot spots
  • No spa, gym or pool onsite
  • A bit hard to locate. Minimal signage makes it feel like the hotel is hiding

Once past the engaging entrance, the same design flair is found in the rooms...
