Sea Stars Apartments
Dahab, Egypt
Sparkling self-catering apartments (sleeping 4-6) on the quiet side of town with sun loungers and sea views up on their roof terraces
The Red Sea is one of the best dive destinations in the world, and
for Europeans it’s one of the most accessible. Dahab makes a
great base for those wishing to take the plunge as many of the best
dives sites are on your doorstep (Blue Hole is close). It’s
also a great place to hang out with cool coffee shops and
restaurants strung out along the seafront.
Sian and Tim offer 6 self-catering apartments on the quiet side of
town, in the Eel Garden area. They are spread amongst 3 houses:
each has a communal roof terrace (cushions in the shade, loungers
in the sun), then 2 apartments below. Those on the first
floor have balconies, but other than that the feel is the same:
whitewashed walls, air conditioned rooms, a power shower in the wet
room, an open-plan sitting room/kitchen that opens onto the garden.
Restaurants are a short stroll, so you don’t have to cook.
Perfect for those who want a little more privacy than a hotel and
for families.
Highs
- Safe, spotless, excellent value for money: if you want to stay in town and look after yourself, this is ideal
- Tim is a dive instructor and can supply the best information
- There’s an off licence close by where you can buy beer, wine and spirits
- The roof terraces are perfect for lazy afternoons in the sun
- You’re in the original bedouin village, so you get a fascinating insight to the real Sinai
- There are barbecues in the garden that guests can use
Lows
- Fantastic showers in the wet rooms leave a lot of water in their wake
- The closest stretch of beach is not particularly attractive (and there's no pool). The Eel Garden beach is 100 yards away though; great for families
- No microwaves or dishwashers
