Ten Bompas
Johannesburg, South Africa
Wonderfully stylish small hotel with a top-notch restaurant, conveniently located between downtown and the business districts of Sandton and Rosebank
The ethos of Ten Bompas is that of superior convenience. It was the
childhood home of owner, Christoff Van Staden, who travels widely
and knows all too much about big, impersonal hotels. At Ten Bompas,
he has succeeded in creating his ideal small hotel, with good
service, great food, and all the little extra touches he misses
when he stays elsewhere.
Enormous care has gone into planning the details. Even the coal for
the fire in your room comes in brown paper bags tied up with string
- so you don’t dirty your hands stoking it.
With its relaxing atmosphere and chic, modern African decor, Ten
Bompas is a great place to chill while exploring the hectic city of
Johannesburg. And for those on business its Dunkeld West location
is convenient for Sandton, Illovo and Rosebank.

Highs
- The stylish and well equipped rooms
- The staff are in a class of their own – friendly, helpful and downright lovely
- The innovative Sides restaurant
- Lots of nice touches: free pre-dinner snacks delivered to the room, cookies and horlicks at bed time, free laundry, free magazines …
Lows
- It struck us as incongruous, with all the complimentary services offered, that Ten Bompas still bothers to charge for airport transfers.
