THE DAVIS - REVIEW
Bangkok: city of temples, palaces, bustling canals, street stalls; but also of cosmopolitan style, exotic boutiques, swift skytrains, fine dining. If you've ticked all the first lot – or you're just more interested in the second – then check out the sleekly-styled, impeccably-run Davis hotel which opened mid 2003 off the Sukhumvit road. Dubbed as downtown, but hailed as up-and-coming, this area is in the thick of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as the city's financial centre. Naturally popular with businessmen and expats, its bustling modernism also appeals to more urban(e) tourists, using the Skytrain and Sen Seb canal-boat to reach the river and main attractions in ˝ hour.
The 9-storey Davis contains 160 rooms – quite boutique by Bangkok standards - and a pool and spa on top. It's equally boutique inside, with streamlined décor and hi-tech comforts. Next door is a cluster of 10 pointy-roofed pavilions, nestling amidst palms and pools in an almost rural setting, for long-term guests seeking serviced apartments. |
