TREE TOPS JUNGLE LODGE - REVIEW

If you’re ready to see Sri Lanka in the raw, you should take a trip back to nature at Tree Tops Jungle Lodge. Set in the Weliara wilderness bordering Yala National Park, this simple rustic lodge offers a village style atmosphere: thatched unfenced clay huts are discreetly integrated with an awesome landscape of rocky hills, scrub jungle, tall tropical dryzone forest and lakes. With 160 recorded species the birdlife is unique, and wild elephants have their tracks right through the premises of the lodge. Guests are even warned to arrive by mid afternoon to avoid possible confrontation with an elephant on the driveway.

Tree Tops is a micro lodge that's way off the beaten track. It's fully geared with a cook and trackers, all eager to create great experiences for visitors - be it tasty Sri Lankan meals, jungle treks, or wild elephant spotting. And when you have a spare moment, you can just relax in a hammock and enjoy the soul of the wilderness – here nature comes to you...

The accommodation is pretty basic – a high or low depending on your constitution
Don't expect any modern conveniences or home comforts: no electricity or showers
It gets seriously muddy when it rains
This is no safari park: there are no guaranteed animal sightings - the chances of seeing an elephant up close are hit or miss (literally!)
This trip is definitely not for the fearful
