Gaucin, Ronda & the White Villages, Spain Book from

Spectacularly located private cottage near the pretty white village of Gaucín (sleeping 4-8)
Located on a large, privately-owned country estate, this individual cottage is among our favourite places to stay in Andalucia. Wake up to an unspoilt panoramic view across the mountains and lowland valleys to far away Morocco; set off on one of the many walking or riding trails; return to a dip in your own private pool. Or take the car and explore Andalucia's white mountain villages, golf courses and beaches.

The cottage has been designed with comfort in mind: rooms are spacious and airy with vaulted ceilings, French windows leading onto a terrace, a well-equipped kitchen, cool whitewashed walls and terracotta-tiled floors for summer, and cosy fireplaces or heating for winter. It's also beautifully decorated, with solid wood furniture, pretty fabrics and well-stocked bookshelves. Ideal for groups of friends, romantics, and families (babysitting can be arranged).

  • You get the space and flexibility of your own cottage
  • A totally unspoilt location in very picturesque country
  • This is a true hideaway - far from the crowds, and not available through other websites or agencies

  • Not surprisingly, the cottage is very popular and bookings should be made well in advance
  • If you want to eat out, you'll need to drive (it's 5 minutes to a good restaurant nearby and less than 10 minutes to Gaucín village)
  • There's a minimum rental of 1 week, which runs from Saturday to Saturday, though this may be flexible for last minute bookings

Best time to go

Anytime, but for the security of good weather May, June, September and October are the best months. July and August are very hot. March and April, although sometimes showery, are perfect for walking, with wild flowers and migratory birds. There's central heating and a fireplace for the winter months (logs can be provided).

There's a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a twin bedroom with a separate bathroom. Both have French windows opening onto the terrace.

There's also a small guest annexe with 2 further twin bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms, and a utility room with a washing machine. The annexe bedrooms are both accessed independently from outside and are smaller than those in the main part of the cottage.

The cottage's kitchen has an oven, a double-ringed hob, a toaster, a kettle, a fridge and a dining area, as well as some welcome extras such as a cafetière and an electric orange squeezer. Because of local fire regulations there's no BBQ.

You can prebook a wonderful wicker hamper - well worth the extra cost - which is filled with goodies like fresh homemade soup, delicious cold chicken baked in herbs, ham, bacon, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, muesli, fruit, vegetables, wine, beer, water, bread, jam, tea, coffee, milk, olive oil, sugar, salt and pepper, as well as rubbish bags and matches. It's so generous, you won't have to look for a supermarket for at least a day or so, but when you do you'll find simple food shops and a covered market in the nearby village of Gaucín, a 10-minute drive away.

For those who don’t want to step into the kitchen there's a restaurant a 5-minute drive away, and Gaucín has a number of bars and eateries. Babysitting can be arranged if you want a meal out sans kids.
