Santorini certainly is picturesque, but it is never quiet. From May to early October, when the charter flights operate, it is bustling. During July and August, when the Greeks joins the throngs of foreigners, it is frankly packed to the brim. The boutique-lined lanes of Oia (pronounced ee-a) and Ferá jostle with bodies, their music clubs boom away till the early hours, the black-sand beaches are packed with sunbathers, buses heave with bodies, and hotels are booked up way in advance.
