You don’t need to splash the cash for a stylish weekend in Barcelona. Hop on a low-cost flight and retreat to one of these boutique boltholes for maximum style and minimum spend!
Casa Bonay, from £85
This hyper-hip hotel in La Dreta de l’Eixample hails all-things Catalan, with interiors sourced solely from the region. It’s also a hit with the locals, thanks to a buzzy restaurant that excels in inventive fusion food, and a cool rooftop bar where guest DJs play in the summer. Rooms are chic but simple, which keeps their price tag very reasonable.
Boutique Apartments Barcelona, from £62
Staying in an apartment is a great way to cut costs; make your own breakfasts and whip up snacks at home to save on spending. These modern apartments (sleeping 2-5) are spacious, stylish and come with fully equipped kitchens, plus you can book for just 3 or 4 nights – unusual for apartments. Choose to stay in either the trendy El Born district or the more peaceful Sants district.
Hotel Constanza, from £56
The winning combination of a central location (near Plaça de Catalunya), contemporary interiors and great prices make this hotel a total steal. Situated in Eixample, you’re within walking distance of major sights, yet the surrounding streets are blissfully quiet. The icing on the cake is a fabulous roof terrace for sundowner cocktails and stellar views.
Room Mate Emma, from £54
This excellent-value hotel has rooms for as little as £53 per night. The spaceship-like corridors, hot pink walls and low-key lighting give it a quirky, futuristic feel, and the hip staff are friendly and helpful. The interiors may not be to everyone’s taste, but you can’t top that price, plus the location in the heart of stylish Eixample is unbeatable.
Hotel Denit, from £85
You’re slap bang in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, but it couldn’t be quieter down this little side street. Hotel Denit’s rooms are minimalist and squeaky clean, with nifty, space-saving design, and the breakfasts are delicious. Top tip: the earlier you book a room, the less you pay.
Chic & Basic Born, from £75
At first glance, rooms at Chic & Basic Born might appear clinical and minimalist, but flamboyant additions such as fibre optic shower curtains and a quirky LED light system add fun, colour and sparkle. There’s also a sociable ‘help yourself’ drinks area, and myriad restaurants and bars on your doorstep.
The 5 Rooms, from £109
With such creative, cool interiors, it’ll come as no surprise that this quirky hotel is run by a fashionista. Rooms have a neutral palette with exposed brick walls and playful pops of colour, plus they are large and spacious, with high ceilings and big windows. It’s not the cheapest hotel in Barcelona, but you get more bang for your buck and the location in lively Eixample is ideal. We loved it.
Hotel Murmuri, from £116
It all feels very grand as you saunter along the red carpet in the marble-floored lobby of Hotel Murmuri. Lots of the rooms have balconies, there’s a snazzy solarium on the roof, and guests get free access to the pool and spa at nearby sister hotel The Majestic. Plus there are 2 restaurants, Eixample’s designer shops are on your doorstep, and Gaudí’s masterpieces are a short walk away.
