A beautifully restored farmhouse with a dreamy pool, acres of lush farmland, colourful gardens, and spectacular beaches close by (sleeps 12)

A beautifully restored farmhouse with a dreamy pool, acres of lush farmland, colourful gardens, and spectacular beaches close by (sleeps 12)

Tucked away in the centre of Menorca, just outside pretty Alaior, is this gem of a retreat. It ticks a lot of boxes: glorious countryside views; a glimmering, tree-lined pool; a private tennis court; spectacular nearby beaches. All a 15-minute drive from the airport. With six bedrooms (plus an optional two-bedroom annexe), this is just the ticket for a memorable gathering of extended family or friends. When the owners restored this 250-year-old farmhouse, they achieved a pleasing balance of old and new. Think clean, white stone walls and high beamed ceilings; smart terracotta floors and classic, ‘rustic farmhouse’ features. This is a proper home-from-home on a wonderfully big scale.

Outside, crank up your best summer playlist on the Sonos speakers. Set the world to rights in the Moroccan-style chill-out space. Dine under the covered courtyard terrace. Fire up the barbecue poolside. Or claim a shady spot under a pine tree. Word is there’s plenty of space to go around. Their eco credentials are impressive too, with all grey water collected to irrigate the land and solar-powered hot water. The surrounding 160 acres of farm and woodland have been converted to a certified agroturismo estate, managed to benefit indigenous flora and fauna. So, spend balmy evenings watching red kites and swallows dance as you sip a glass of wine. Heaven! This is one gem we can’t wait to visit.

  • A dedicated wing for kids and a semi-separate annexe makes this a superb option for extended families and big groups
  • We love the sprawling gardens, with their palm and olive trees, tennis court and wild tortoises
  • The airport is just a 15-minute hop away
  • The local shops and cafes of Alaior are a 7-minute drive away
  • The eco credentials – the orchard well water has been purified for drinking water, so you don't need to buy plastic bottles of water

  • You’ll need a car to get around, but this is a great central spot for exploring the island
  • Not all rooms have air-con, some just have ceiling fans (a plus for some)
  • The saltwater pool is unheated; refreshing during the summer months
  • A 7-night minimum stay (Friday changeovers) and a £1,000 refundable damage deposit

Best time to go

The farmhouse is open from May to October. Come June to August for balmy temperatures – perfect for poolside lounging away from the crowds. Spring and autumn bring pleasant, mild temperatures, great for exploring the island.

This farmhouse is big! The main house can comfortably accommodate three families of 4 or a large group of 12; and there's a two-bedroom annexe which you can add if your group is larger (up to 16 + kids).

The main house has six bedrooms and five bathrooms spread across two floors and a semi-separate 'granny suite'. Expect wood-beamed ceilings, clean white walls and classic country house-style furnishings across the living quarters, including the large ground-floor salon. Bathrooms come with gorgeous Bramley products; three have showers and two have tubs.

If you can, bag yourself the double room on the first floor with its own sun terrace (note, the low walls make this a no-go area for little ones). Grandparents or those who’d prefer extra privacy are well catered for in the semi-separate suite. It comes with a double ensuite, air-con and a separate entrance.

Kids can enjoy sleepovers in the first-floor children’s wing, with its two interconnecting twin rooms and shared bathroom with bathtub.

The separate annexe has two bedrooms, which can each be set up with twin beds or a kingsize double, one bathroom with a shower, and an additional toilet.

Features include:

  • Fan
  • Hairdryer
  • Tumble dryer
  • Washing machine
  • WiFi

Knock up a feast in the smartly equipped kitchen (the closest supermarket is 10 mins away). There's an American-style fridge-freezer and a Nespresso machine among other amenities. Or arrange for a professional chef to take care of business (the owners can sort this for you). Feast in the adjacent dining room, or, on balmy evenings dine out on the covered terrace; we hear it's quite the experience. Both the dining table and the terrace table seat 12 comfortably. Note that there's a safe drinking water tap so you don't need to buy plastic bottles of water.

Heading out, nearby Alaior has some top eating options. Es Festuc – one of our personal favourites – serves delicious, well-priced tapas. Or for fancier fare, head to Mahon (20 mins) or Son Bou (15 mins).

Features include:

  • Barbecue
  • Chef on request
  • Coffee maker
  • Food blender
  • Fridge
  • Hob or stove
  • Microwave
  • Oven
  • Toaster

  • Leaving the villa is by no means essential. Swim in the tree-lined saline pool, channel your inner Raducanu on the private tennis court, or lounge in the shade of the peach trees. Bliss
  • Discover the Caribbean-blue waters that lap Menorca’s shores. The heavenly white sands of Son Bou are closest (20-min drive). Its shallow water makes this a great spot for kids. Or head north to Pregonda and Pilar for equally spectacular beach action (40 mins)
  • Explore the hilltop medieval town of Alaior (7 mins). Cafes and boutiques are aplenty. The bustling weekly markets are worth a visit too
  • Cruise on a kayak and marvel at prehistoric caves and barely discovered coves. Lots of guided tours are available. Try Rutas Kayak Menorca at Cala en Porter Beach (20 mins)
  • Don your best walking shoes and take on one of the many hiking trails available on the island. Cami de Cavalls is a top place to start (25 mins)

Activities on site or nearby include:

    • Badminton
    • Hiking
    • Kayaking
    • Shopping / markets
    • Snorkelling

Children of all ages are more than welcome here. Kids can spend their days playing with the water toys on offer in the (gated) pool. There are ping pong and tennis matches to compete in, gardens to explore and friendly wild tortoises to befriend - so ample opportunity for parents to have a holiday too. For the older ones, snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding are all up for grabs at the nearby beaches (the nearest is 15 mins), so everyone’s happy. There are cots and an extra bed for kids if required.
