Mizpah, nestling in the exclusive Safdarjung Enclave in the south of New Delhi, is a delightful and intriguing marriage of two seemingly disparate cultures – Australian and Indian. Owners Shaun and Caroline split their lives between Melbourne and Delhi, but it's clear their hearts remain here – in this little oasis of calm in one of the world’s most dizzying cities.
With only four rooms, the feel here is more of a family home rather than a traditional hotel or B&B. Anglo-Indian touches flow throughout – colonial-era stylings married with bright, modern décor. Here some comfy rattan chairs under gently whirling ceiling fans, there whitewashed walls with block-print floral fabrics, everywhere dark woods and block prints. Spice colours and local flora sit happily alongside swathes of cool blue intended to evoke Southern skyscapes. The art is carefully curated, and everything has a story, including the framed photographs in our room – all taken by Caroline. There’s also a little dining area, where you can take breakfast before a busy day of exploring, or recharge with some local tea and homemade cake in the afternoon, before it transforms into a chic eatery by night. Everything we feasted on was really tasty and fresh, and the menus were so creative, authentic and well thought-out. We loved the traditional Indian welcome with flower garlands, incense and tilaks, along with ginger and lemongrass infusions! All in all, it’s a haven amid the chaos or the perfect starting point for your passage to the rest of India.

- A real home from home vibe, a welcome antidote to the busyness of Delhi

Rooms
With only four bright and colourful rooms, Mizpah Delhi prides itself on combining a family atmosphere with the accommodation you’d expect from an upscale B&B.
Iris is the Deluxe room and has its own private entrance on the ground floor. It also opens out into the café’s outside space and is the only twin room. Inside it's designed in calming blues and has an ensuite bathroom and a small corner desk.
Suite Rose, on the first floor, is more spacious and boasts a private living room (which can accomodate a couple of kids), ensuite bathroom and outside verandah.
Superior Jasmine can accommodate a family with one child – the bathroom divides the space between the main bedroom and a separate small bedroom. It also has a small balcony looking down over the local streets.
The Deluxe Room Lily sits on the top floor, is airy and light, and has a beautiful indigo fabric wall and a street-facing balcony. This is where we stayed, so lovely and spacious, and the bed was so comfy you could almost melt into them.
All rooms come with natural bathroom products, smart TVs, aircon, air purifiers, designer bathrobes and daily cleaning.
Features include:

Eating
Food is almost a national religion in India so you’re spoiled for choice. Mizpah itself offers an array of home cooking in its pretty dining area – from traditional breakfast to afternoon snacks and dinner – all a la carte. Vegan and healthy options are widely available. We were treated to a ‘Sunday Tiffin’ – Caroline’s grandmother used to prepare a tiffin for her grandfather when he went off to work. We chose the vegetarian option and received a plentiful spread of aromatic paneer curry, rice, daal, pickled vegetables, poppadoms, and the most delicately buttery and flaky rotis along with some Indian red wine.
For breakfast you can choose western and Indian classics. We had the ‘Countryside Skillet’ with eggs, potatoes and herby cheese and the 'Delhi Breakfast' – a potato curry with roti. All are served with toast with butter and homemade jam, fresh juice, coffee or a range of teas including their Masala Chai and seasonal fruit.
Most locals and tourists head to nearby Hauz Khas market, a thriving hub that attracts the trendy and glamorous to its many cafes and restaurants – staff can make great recommendations. Hauz Khas Social is popular, with its views across the lake and fusion dishes, Coast Café is renowned for its Malayali seafood cuisine, while Yeti boasts gorgeous Himalayan fare. But the best advice is just to get out and explore.

- New Delhi is bursting with culture and history – Jama Masjid (India's largest mosque), World Heritage Site Qutub Minar, the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Raj Ghat, Parliament House, endless temples and stunning architecture. Plan ahead, you will NOT have time for everything
- Safdarjung's Tomb, after which the Enclave is named, is an 18th-century sandstone Mughal mausoleum surrounded by a monumental tomb garden
- Shoppers should head to Shahpur Jat, an urban village near the ruins of Siri Fort, that has now become a bohemian enclave with artists’ and designers’ studios. Nestling along its mural-painted streets you’ll find everything from teas and Indian-motif pillowcases to saris, tunics and local crafts. The Sarojini Nagar market is also great for browsing. For jewellery and saris try the famous 17th-century market Chandni Chowk
