A trio of contemporary pool villas perfect for families in northern Lefkas, close to the island's best beaches and main town (each sleeps up to 5)

The underrated island of Lefkas gets overshadowed by its more famous Ionian neighbours, yet it’s easier to reach than most people realise. With a bridge connecting it to the Greek mainland, you can fly into Preveza Airport and be on Lefkas in less than half an hour. A stunning coastal drive takes you to the island’s pretty main town, and just beyond this lie some of the most dazzling beaches in Greece.

It’s near these turquoise shores that you’ll find Papadria, a trio of two-bed villas tucked among olive groves just outside the village of Tsoukalades. Each sits within its own slice of secluded landscaped garden and comes with a private pool, outdoor kitchen and shaded terrace for long, lazy afternoons. The styling inside is modern and uncluttered, with neutral tones and floor-to-ceiling glass that blurs the line between indoors and out. You could quite happily while away your holiday cocooned here, but the convenient location of these villas means nothing is far away. Walk into the local village for a taverna lunch, borrow an e-bike and cycle to the beach for the afternoon (famous Kathisma isn't far away), then pop into Lefkada Town (10-min drive) for sunset drinks. With all this in reach, Papadria Luxury Villas strikes that elusive balance between seclusion and convenience, making it ideal for families seeking a simple yet stylish beach escape.

Highs

    • Each villa has a private pool, an outdoor kitchen and a generous slice of peaceful garden for relaxing in
    • Tsoukalades village is only 500 metres away, where there are a handful of tavernas, a bakery cafe, and two small grocery stores
    • A concierge service is available with wine deliveries, wellness services and private chefs all on hand, as well as complimentary e-bikes
    • Lefkas is known for its stunning beaches, and you’re very close to them here
    • An easy and good-value choice for families

Lows

    • There are no sea views here, but the villas do have peaceful, leafy outlooks
    • You'll need a car to reach beaches and explore the island (or borrow an e-bike)
    • The interiors are smart and pared-back rather than colourful

Best time to go

May and June enjoy pleasant temperatures and wild spring flowers, though the pools and sea can be chilly. July and August are the hottest months, when the beaches and towns can get busy, but the villas have shaded terraces and pools to keep you cool. September and October are lovely, with warm seas and fewer crowds on the island. The shoulder seasons (May-June and Sep-Oct) offer great value for pool villas of this calibre. Papadria is closed early November - late March.

Our top tips

Book a boat for the day so you can explore Lefkas' gorgeous west coast from the water. Some of the island's prettiest beaches are only accessible by sea, and the concierge team can help arrange private or self-drive options.

Rooms

There are three villas at Papadria, all very similar in layout, with one bedroom upstairs and one downstairs. They follow the same design philosophy which blurs indoors and out through the use of high vaulted ceilings, muted colour palettes and large sliding doors.

Each villa has two double bedrooms (some can be set up as twins) and two ensuite bathrooms, while the living area combines comfortable seating with a fully equipped kitchen and dining table. But you’ll be spending most of your time outdoors here, lounging by the private pool in the garden, or having alfresco suppers on your terrace.

Villa Amarea and Villa Orelia are identical in size at 78m2, while Villa Aethra is slightly larger and has the addition of a rooftop garden leading off the upstairs bedroom. If you’re travelling with another family or two, you could hire all three villas and congregate in each other's gardens.

Eating

The villas are very well equipped for self-catering, each with both indoor and outdoor kitchens. The outdoor ones are particularly lovely, all of them poolside, with barbecues and large tables lit by raffia lampshades for dining after dark.

All your basic pantry items (tea, coffee, honey, salt & pepper) are supplied. The nearest grocery stores are 500m away in Tsoukalades village, while a larger supermarket is 4km away. Head to the local bakery in the morning for your bread, pastry and Greek pie needs. Concierge staff can arrange grocery pre-stocking or private chefs - just ask.

Eating out is easy here too. You can walk into the village to find a handful of lovely low-key tavernas. Psaropoula serves traditional Greek fare and seafood in a beautiful garden setting lit by fairy lights. Kambos is also good for authentic home-cooking, while Lalas Grill House does yummy gyros, pittas and souvlaki.
